We have been making time to celebrate all the little
things lately, and simple habits like lighting a candle
at the dinner table can really help to make an everyday
moment feel special.
Handmade by Graham Martin, who has been working
with elm for over four decades, each candle holder
is one of a kind, showcasing the distinctive qualities
of Wych elm, or Scots elm, which varies widely in both
grain and colour. Each holds its own story. With solid
brass insert, to fit 13mm diameter candle. Candle
The elm used in this collection was sourced in
Pennyghael on the Isle of Mull in the 1980s. The
trees had been earmarked for felling for various reasons
- some were mature trees nearing the end of their lives,
others were already dead or windblown. A Shire horse
was used to pull the felled trees from the woods before
it was taken to the local sawmill, where it was converted
to timber. Since then, it has been seasoned in woodsheds
on the island. This collection is the last of the elm.
Due to the handmade nature of each piece, dimensions
vary between 55 x 55 x 50 mm and 50 x 50 x 45 mm.
Includes a 23cm tall white candle as pictured.
