FAQ

WHAT'S YOUR ADDRESS?

Century General Store, Montrose House, 1-7 Montrose Terrace, Abbeyhill, Edinburgh, EH7 5DJ.

WHERE ARE YOU?

We are located in the Abbeyhill neighbourhood of Edinburgh, just a stone's throw away from Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat, the Scottish Parliament and Easter Road. The number 35 bus stops right around the corner, or you can catch any bus along London Road and walk up the steps at the back of the building. If you're coming from Princess Street, just keep walking east, along Regent Road. We're the big turreted building on Montrose Terrace, EH7 5DJ. The amazing artwork of our building on the homepage is by Charlie Breen

WHAT DO YOU SELL?

We sell timeless everyday products made with the earth in mind: beautiful, simple homewares; zero waste products for the kitchen and bathroom; houseplants; handmade ceramics and jewellery; plant-based skincare and scents; independent magazines and more.

We also serve coffee, tea, and plenty of cake to sit in or take away.

DO YOU STILL HAVE A CAFE?

We have stopped serving food to focus on the retail side of Century General Store. We no longer have a cafe area; instead, we have a cosy nook and seats for 10. We do sell the same great coffee, fairly traded and roasted by Common Coffee, alongside tea, latte blends, and cold drinks. We also sell an array of delicious cakes, with plenty of gluten free and vegan options. If you're looking for food in the Abbeyhill area, you'll find a host of lovely cafes, family-friendly pubs and restaurants along Montrose Terrace, Easter Road and London Road.

WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO STOP RUNNING THE CAFE?

The short answer is to focus my energy into creating a beautiful shop selling a carefully-chosen range of sustainable homewares, ethically-made household goods, handmade items from local makers and more...while still offering a space for people to connect over a cup of coffee or a slice of something tasty.

The longer answer involves making difficult decisions based on my role as a parent, concerns about the climate crisis, finding a way to make a positive contribution to the earth, wanting to support and recognise the work of independent makers, simplifying life, and getting Century General Store back to its roots.

ARE YOU HIRING?

Not at the moment. Century General General Store is just Stevie, working in the shop by day and working on all the behind the scenes stuff by night. If I'm ever hiring in the future, I'll advertise vacancies in store and on social media.

WHEN ARE YOU OPEN?
